Architects who are fresh out of college in the Northeast US or on the west coast can expect to start out with around $40,000. Average salary after 5 years should be around $65,000. Salaries can be lower by $5,000 - $7,000 in other parts of the country because of the lower cost of living.

Graduates with Bachelor's degrees start at around $28,000 depending on area. This is a low paying position as there are many people who want to be architects, but not very many openings. After finding a job, working through your internship and pass all the AIA exams then as a licensed architect you could make $40,000.

In the US, architects earn between $40,000 and $50,000 in their first year, depending on the region and the degrees they hold. Starting architects with a Masters of Architecture degree will make 10% - 20% more to start than people who have only a Bachelor's degree. Relevant work experience may also increase the starting offer.
