The most common side effects of Vicodin are lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and drowsiness. Other notable side effects are mental and emotional alteration, constipation, breathing problems, skin rash, and diminished sensory. It is rare, but some patients have severe allergic reactions to Vicodin where the above reactions are severe and can be life threatening.

Vicodin should be used as a short-term pain reliever. Used for longer than ten days, it can become addictive due to it's codeine content. Long-term it can cause gastric ulcers.
