Steroids are helpful and effective when prescribed by a physician for short periods of time. They can cause dry mouth, excessive thirst, excessive urination, all of which cease when the course of meds is complete. Long-term steroid use and anabolic steroid abuse is another matter that is well documented online.

Some of the side effects of steroids are baldness, testicle shrinkage and other sexual dysfunction, and uncontrollable bouts of rage. In addition, certain organ failure has been attributed to steroid use.

Rosccea (form of acne), hair loss, glucose tolerance (mimicking type 2 diabetes), reproductive problems (both men and women), aggressiveness due to increased testosterone, liver problems, risk of cardiovascular disease, increase in cholesterol levels, structural changes in the heart, increased diastolic blood pressure (most of these symptoms reverse after stopping use)
