One particular side effect of Fosamax is irritation of the esophagus. The manufacturers of Fosamax are being sued because a number of patients had this serious adverse event occur. Patients are supposed to remain upright after taking the medication and take with a full glass of water to prevent the side effect. This was not clearly communicated.
