What are the rules about Puritans and education?

In colonial America, Puritans regarded the Bible as the only real form of education but as time went on, they included English dictionaries. Puritans taught girls mainly how to be good housewives and they taught them to cook, sew, clean the house and tend to their husbands. Young boys learned trades so they can provide for their families.

Puritans like the Pilgrims who came to America were strong believers in education, believing that God created wisdom and learning. They founded Harvard in 1636.

The Puritans valued education. They tried to combine both the Bible and Liberal Arts. They felt that the Bible should be read daily and people should be educated sufficiently. Puritans believed that God was the source of the truth. People should try to become more like God. Education should comprise of both piety and knowledge.

Well, there are no "rules" per se. However, older Puritan beliefs focused on education which would allow people to read the Bible and have a more direct access to God; therefore, these educated people would not need a priest to learn from or to access the holy word for them.
