What are the regulations involving powered bicycles?

They're not really bikes, but they're not like cars.

A powered bicycle that has a gasoline engine of 50cc's or less, with no external shifting mechanism that can't go faster than 30 mph on level ground is usually considered a moped, whether it can be pedaled or not. These can be driven on the roads without tags, registration or licenses. Electrically-assisted bikes are usually just considered bicycles.

You will need to get a special license to ride it on the street and you may need a plate on it depending on your city.
