Milkweed bugs are one type of flying insect that may be near flowers. There are also stinkbugs, which come in many different colors and may even vary in color depending on age. Soldier beetles may be attracted to flowers due to any aphids there.

It depends on where you live, what type of orange and brown flying insect you have. It might be a Ten-lined June beetle, which is a strange looking type of moth.

The insect you are referring to is common wasp and these insects have the combination of orange and brown and they look quite large, there is a possibility that the insect is also a bee.
