What are the laws in Indiana concerning owning and carrying firearms?

I keep a firearm under the seat of my car and I want ot ensure that I am not breaking any laws.

The "right to carry" law requires that you apply to the chief of police or the county sheriff and pay the fee. The gun must be registered. You must have no felony record and no record of domestic battery. There are a number of laws, all complex. You can review Indiana Code 35-47-2 online. Verify with local law enforcement, too.

You may apply for a handgun license (4-year or lifetime). Begin by visiting your city or town police or Sheriff's office if you live in a rural area. Convicted felons cannot obtain for a handgun license.
