Your sister can absolutely use her abuse as grounds for abuse. She can get out of a marriage even without that, but she should, for her one sake and for the well being of his future partners bring him to justice on the abuse. At least them he'll at least get help, for the next woman's sake.

Actually, you don't need "grounds" for a divorce. She can file for divorce any time she wants. But most states have special rules when abuse is involved and will likely issue a protective order if she can prove she has been abused. Abuse is also a factor in determining child custody and child and spousal support.

I would think that abuse coulld be used as grounds for divorce no matter what state you live in. Abuse is illegal in any state but look for the laws online and make sure.

Legally speaking, you do not need any specific grounds for divorce, you just have to not want to be married anymore. But yes, of course abuse is a good reason.

Yes, if your sister is being abused she can use that for grounds of divorced. Domestic Violence is something that is NOT accepted by all fifty states. Get your sister some help and get her out of that house right now. Next time he hurts her could be the time he kills her.
