Coastal communities will be given a week to three days advance notice of a hurricane approaching. By then you must do the following: 1)Board up your home or business, 2)Gather supplies like food and water 3)Seek shelter in highter elevations away from the coast, if the storm is category 4+.

You will receive a warning. Board up house, get extra food and water, and if it is category 4 or higher, be prepared to move to higher ground

As you prepare for your move, check the internet for websites containing information for Satellite Beach. A Chamber of Commerce website or a Florida tourism website can offer valuable information regarding this question. If you don't immediately locate your answer, find contact phone numbers for the representative businesses and call them. Also, check with the National Weather Service.

The only hurricane laws state that if a mandatory evacuation is issued, you must sign consent to stay or leave. Otherwise the only things that apply are building codes.

The Satellite Beach Fire Department website has a list of frequently asked hurricane questions. You may need to evacuate during a storm, and wait until it's safe to come back.
