What are the functions of the plasma membrane?

The plasma membrane of a cell allows for nutrients to enter into the cell. It also removes waste products and releases proteins and antibodies into the body. The membrane also allows for ions to transported, to keep the fluid level equal through osmosis, and also supplys structure to the cell.

The plasma membrane is a barrier between the inside and the outside of a cell, it separates the cytoplasm from the extracellular fluid. It is a phospholipid bilayer, made up of proteins and lipids, with many protein channels and transporters that allow things to move in an out of the cell.
