There are several different types of computers. You can build your own for one thing. Actual big name brands are HP, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Apple. For people who generally just want a computer thats ready to go out of the box, I usually recommend Dells. They have good prices and work well.

Well there is Compaq, Dell, Toshiba , Hp , Acer, Power spec and more. You are going to want a dual core processor with at-least 4 gigs of ram and 250gb Hard Drive, anything else is or will be outdated shortly. I purchased a Compaq Desktop and a Acer laptop last year and both are running strong.

Dell offers a very wide variety of computers, but Toshiba offers amazing customer service and are very reliable. Mac products are very versatile and safe, but expensive.

The two main competitors are PCs and Macs. In my opinion Macs are more for like the arts and editing purposes. PCs seem to be more of a general usage. it all depends on your reason for looking for one.
