Birth control is safe to use when prescribed, and has little or no side effects. Plan B is an option women can use when their normal birth control (usually condoms) fail. It will basically force a period, and prevent any fertilized egg from adhering to the uterus. It is not intended to be used as a regular birth control method.

Plan B, aka The Day After Pill, is a pill that you take AFTER you have had sex and think that you may have become pregnant. Whereas birth control is a hormone you take regularly to prevent the possibility of pregnancy, and is always taken BEFORE having sex.

Plan B is an emergency contraceptive that is only taken after unprotected intercourse. It works in several ways: it might stop ovulation and also makes the uterus hostile to a fertilized egg. Birth control pills are taken regularly, at the same time on a daily basis, to stop ovulation and prevent pregnancy.

Plan B is not birth control. Plan B delivers a major dose of hormones to your body in one dose- enough to prevent the implantation of the sperm into the egg that one time. Birth control is a much more liable method of preventing pregnancy.

Plan B is not regular birth control. Where birth control pills are taken daily to prevent pregnancy, Plan B is taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. It's not meant to be taken regularly. Think of birth control as the before protection, and Plan B as the after protection.
