ROM is Read Only Memory and EPROM is Electronically Programmable ROM. The ROM module has been programmed at manufacture and cannot be changed. The EPROM is programmed by the buyer with code of their choice. An example of this is where someone would replace the factory ROM on their washing machine, with an EPROM they have programmed for different functions.

Read Only Memory (ROM) is an integrated circuit programmed with unalterable digital data. Erasable-Programable Read Only Memory (EPROM)is an integrated circuit contained programmed digital data. The contents of EPROM can be erased by exposing it to ultra-violet light. Both ROM and EPROM are used in digital circuits and both retain programmed data in the absence of power.

Read Only Memory can only be read but can't change. It is a non volatile memory that is stored information is retained when the power is off. It consists of a single transistor. Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory is a special type ROM that is programmed electrically and retain under Ultra violet light. It consist of one transistor

ROM is used for read-only-memory. Usually containing information that never changes, such as a computer's BIOS. EPROM (Erasable Programmable ROM) is a special kind of ROM that has a small window that when exposed to UV rays, can be erased and reprogrammed. The window is usually covered with foil to prevent accidental erasure.

ROM stands for "Read Only Memory". This is a closed 'black-box' type of microchip which has no way of being erased or re-programmed, once written. The 'EP' in EPROM stands for 'Eresable & Programmable'...so this type of memory can be completely erased by UV light and re-programmed.
