The big change are smartphones/iphones! So you can download a song within seconds. Today you are not only carrying around your favourite music, you are carrying a whole music store.

The current trends in the "biz" is utter trash,unless you like rap,r&b,or american idol winners there's not a whole lot out there.Rock bands have takin a backseat to the trendy Lady GaGa,justin bieber and other eccentric solo artist types.That rely on thier looks and bizarre behavior other than true music talent.

The current trends in the music industry seem to be to have a great beat, but the lyrics don't seem to matter as much.

I think the music industry is leaning toward more commercial-friendly tunes and aiming for songs that feature other singers to bring other fans to buy albums. Also, finding a singer with a sad past or with an indifferent debut like Susan Boyle seems to be important now.
