Winters in Maine are brutal. Tourism is halted sometime in October and doesn't pick up again until summer. Coastal areas open in June for tourists.

Acadia National Park is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year. The park loop road is closed to cars during winter, but most of the park is still accessible. Other places to see are Freeport for shopping, and Portland for a variety of restaurants and nightlife.

Well the best places to visit in Maine are actually the Maine national exhibition park. I would also go to all of the camping areas. They have a nice Victoria museum as well.

One should really visit Camden during the winter. Santa will arrive by riding on a lobster boat during the "Christmas by the Sea" event. In New Gloucester lots of homemade items are up for sale during the "Christmas Shaker Fair". Sounds like a fun place to be during the winter.

Maine is very scenic in the winter months, and is especially enjoyable for those who enjoy winter snow sports such as skiing, both downhill and cross country, snowboarding, and snowmobiling. The Nordic Trail is the best for all of these.

The best places to visit in Maine in the winter are the skiing areas. In Bethel, check out Sunday River for skiing. If you like cross country, there is also a cross country place down the road from the down hill place. Waterville Valley & Sugarloaf are two other great places to check out.
