The most unusual is crocodile stitch, which is really just double crochet but in a weird pattern so it looks like scales. There is only one description of this out there and it is difficult at first! Persevere and it makes an absolutely beautiful pattern.

One of the easiest but least common used that I have seen is the treble crochet. It is pretty and is just another loop around but is very open. Another unusual stitch is the popcorn which I have much difficulty with.

Try the cable stitch, where you front post, stitch two to five times on one row, then back post, stitch the same number of stitches on the next row. You can use single, double or triple crochet to do the cable stitch. Use it to make just about anything with a braided effect like purses or sweaters.

To do the elongated single crochet, yarn over pull up a loop, pull a loop through loop just made and then pull through both loops and continue. This makes for a denser fabric.

Try the extended single crochet, or Tunisian crochet. The invisible single crochet decrease will allow you to make amigurumi and other projects in the round.
