What are some typical Italian greetings?

I have a visitor coming from Italy.

Ciao, HI, Salute, are all used. The visitor will know some english greetings. (almost everyone in the world will know HELLO. But I would try some further research on the internet, the greetingd sre not what you will need but basic words like LUNCH, DINNER, TOILET, SHOP, etc there you may find difficulty.

"Ciao" is informal and means "Hello". It can be used also to say "bye". "Salve" is the formal equivalent. "Buongiorno" means good morning and can be both casual or formal.
