Have you been in a serious relationship before? How long did it last? Why did it not work? According to you, who was more serious about the relationship, you or your partner? Did you consider marriage as an option in that relationship? What were the expectations that your partner did not meet?

If there is something that you need to know that you feel might affect your relationship then you need to be straight up and ask. If it doesn't affect it then it really isn't your business and he will probably reveal it on his own sooner or later. Honesty and patience go a long way.

The best question to ask is why past relationships ended. Did he break up with her? If so, why? And if she broke up with him, what was her reason? This will be very telling. You can also ask how long past relationships lasted and how serious things were. This will give you an idea of his general commitment level.

Ask him things like How many people he's dated or if he's ever been cheated on. Ask him if he communicaties with any of his ex's. I know you don't want to prod but it's important to know these things to form a healthy relationship.
