Arguably, this led to the prosperity of the British Empire for years. They had lots of wealth and influence and military power as well. Of course, the exploitation of land and people is hard to ignore, despite the fact that you only asked for good points. Rich is good, but at what cost?

Mercantilism has been around since Colonial days. Some agree that keeping the capital in the nation is good, but it has been proven that spreading the capital among other countries is a more effecient way of doing business.
