Decorating styles of the 1970's included contrasting and loud colors. Avocado green and bright orange were very common. Bean bag chairs and bead curtains were also very popular. In addition, no room was complete without long shag carpeting.

Every bright color, especially orange, was popular in the 1970's. Orange shag carpets were a decorating staple. Everyone had a lava lamp with moving globs of purple and reds and bright blues. Bean bag chairs were a staple in most living rooms and bedrooms. Large colorful ceramic ashtrays were popular, since most people smoked back then!

If you want a word for the seventies, it's tacky, followed closely by bright. Think about bright colors like orange, lemon yellow, and lime green (even for the carpet and the walls).
