Acute liver failure is signified by confusion, stupor or coma, fluid retention in the liver, jaundice and the decrease in protein output by the liver. This occurs suddenly. Chronic liver failure generally comes from alcohol abuse, hepatitis, or other long term illness and is signified by inflammation and excessive vomiting.

Some of the symptoms include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), confusion, restlessness, fatige, and in the worst cases coma. The reason the body reacts this way is due to the large amount of toxins that the liver can not filter out. A lot of how a persons body will react also depends on their underlying conditions.
