What are some good training exercises for girls just starting out in basketball?

Well, first suicide sprints are something every coach generally uses at all levels of play for their players to stay in court shape. Figure 8 dribbling exercises and cone exercises will be good for them to work on to improve their dribbling techniques. Practicing both right and left hand layups are always very important as well.

Teaching girls how to pass the ball correctly is very important. They should be able to pass overhead, from the chest and from their sides to their teammates.

Practise shooting from in close and dribbling, and for cardio, do wind sprints (running up and down the court) and hand-eye coordination exercises.

to start off have them work on their dribbling standing still and then work on them dribbling while walking. Then put them in two lines =and have them dribble up and make a lay up and then shot a jump shot.
