Pemmican is probably your best bet though you may not like the taste it's essentially 50% beef jerky and 50% beef tallow. Mixed nuts are usually a good choice as well.

Some examples of foods that rich in calories but not too heavy to carry include: Granola bars, dried fruit, beef jerky, and chocolate cookies. Most of them derive their calories from carbohydrates and sugar.

Trail mix, which includes nuts, dried fruits, seeds and chocolate has plenty of calories for hiking. It also has proteins for long term energy and sugars for short term energy.

Nuts are a very good source of both readily available energy, (in the form of calories) and protein and vitamins. Jerky is another favorite of hikers for lots of calories in an easy to carry form. Fruit leathers and other dehydrated foods make good choices. Granola is high in calories as well.

If you are hiking in colder climbs, then foods that are mallable and high in calories can be anything from cheese to Gluttonous rice based products. Other decent foods to consider could be anything from meat jerky to other canned meats. Due to packing space though, things not canned would be best as well as not producing much in trash.

Granola bars with lots of carbohydrates, jerky of all kinds, cheese snacks, dehydrated dairy powder and shakes, cereal bars, power bars, all in one bars, dried fruit, and MREs (Military Rations) are all excellent choices. If you take dried and dehydrated foods, take precautions to stay hydrated. Carry juice and water to prevent dehydration.
