What are some examples of invoking the muse poetry?

Examples: 1) Homer, Book I of The Odyssey. 2) Catullus in Carmen I. 3) Dante Alighieri, in Canto II. 4) Virgil in Book I of Aeneid 5)John Milton's opening of Book I in Paradise Lost. Also, Shakespeare and Chaucer. Muse was formally invoked at the onset of many epic poems.

Throughout the course of history many individuals have tried different methods of invoking the muse and writing poems. One great example of this is Samuel Coleridge who used to use Laudanum to invoke the muse. His poem 'Kubla khan' was written in this fashion.

Anything considered ancient Greek plays, such as Homer's works The Iliad and the Odyssey. Also make sure to check out other plays during that time period.

There are many muses of poetry, one example of evokeing the muse erato was invoked by Virgil in his Aeneid due to him being home sick.
