A common very hard metal is carbon alloy steel. Tungsten Carbide is also another very hard metal. Depleted Uranium is almost as hard as the other to but is denser.
Hard metals would be metals "sintered"- a powder heated below its melting point until the powdered bits stick together, this can be done with carbides of tungsten and titanium.
