When spouses don't agree on politics, try to avoid the hot topics that you will likely never agree upon in day-to-day life. Compromise when you can, by finding common ground. If possible, explore the "why's". This may give a better understanding of why your spouse thinks the way they do.

First and foremost, you need to be able to respect your partner's viewpoint, even if you don't agree with it. Also, set some ground rules for "fighting fair" - meaning in an argument about something unrelated, vow not to bring politics into the discussion as that could create more tension and hurt feelings then necessary.

If you want to get along you have to have ground rules and know what conversations or discussions you just shouldn't have. Also you can try to stick to things that both of you agree on or disagree on. Don't talk about any of these points of view during normal daily routines, won't help.

If you have different political views you will need to respect the opinion of the other without trying to convince them they are wrong. It will take tolerance by both.

If a bride and groom reach across the aisle from the beginning, that's a good thing. However, there may be gridlock sometimes. Don't discuss politics during an argument.

A marriage is hard work even when married to a like-minded person. The ability to be extremely tolerant and respectful of a partner with different political views is tantamount.

Agree on what you disagree on, and how to agree not to seek to "convert" the other. Agree on how you will work out issues.
