The inability to express yourself can cause a barrier to communicate. Some people find it difficult to express themselves, while others find it easy to do. Also, being able to fully converse and socialize can can pose a problem with communication. Some people find it easier to talk and express themselves to someone of the opposite sex.

A serious situation would be a power outage. On a personal level, differences in culture, religion, and language would be a barrier. People with some physical or mental impairments require someone with special skills to communicate with them. The inability or refusal to speak politely will cause people to pay less attention to your views.
