Lots of communication, validating experiences and emotions, and giving independence in appropriate areas. Let the child express his or her individuality by offering choices. Give some chores and let the child feel pride in doing a good job.

Try Love and Logic. You present things as a choice, but you can control the options. For example, they don't want to leave. Say, you can leave by walking yourself or you can leave by me carrying you. You have to stay calm and follow through. Don't offer unenforceable choices (do this or I'll leave you here).

show them lots of love and do not let them rule you. kids respond to positive feedback and are more willing to obey if they are shown lots of love and receive positive responses to their behavior. but do not let them walk all over you.

Try to limit the number of times you raise your voice to your child, redirect him or her when they seem to be getting into trouble. Remain positive and be calm.

Encouragement, family meetings, natural & logical consequences, family dinner and family chores. Positive parenting is my specialty- search for "raising able."
