Should I try using king snakes to kill rattlesnakes in yards?

Rattlesnakes can be considered pests and the best protection is a rattlesnake proof fence. This may be expensive so the encouragement of natural competitors like gophersnakes, racers, and kingsnakes are also used.

This isn't a bad idea. Both King snakes and Rat snakes are known to eat other snakes. Depending on what area you're in, neither of these should be difficult to find. Both are abundant throughout the United States. Another idea would be to find a local "reptile geek" who would catch them for you. I've gotten many snakes that way.

While king snakes have been known to kill and eat rattlesnakes in the wild, it would be more effective to remove places in your yard that a rattlesnake may hide in, and set out rodent traps to remove their food source.
