A repair like this is totally doable at home even for someone who's new to car repairs. You're going to need a few things. A good tool set is handy, a set of sockets, and basic items. You're going to need your car manual, which typically includes a schematic inside.

The first thing that I would check would be the tires. If the tires are balding, it could happem. Then the shocks or struts, then the CV joints, but first, check your tires.

It could. It could also be the wheel alignment, any number of problems in the steering mechanism, or even an unbalanced wheel. To make an accurate diagnosis I would need a lot more information, like where the shimmy is felt (steering wheel, brake pedal, or whole car). Your best bet is to take it to a shop.

CV joints would cause a shimmy at a certain speed. More than likely it is an alignment or suspension issue. Your alignment may be off or your wheels may have became unbalanced. Take it to a shop and have them check it out.

It could be the cv joints, but it could also be a smaller problem. Your tires could be out of balance, or out of round and need to be rotated. You could also have a bad tire on the car.

Yes it could cv joints. It can also be engine mounts or the tranny mounts or may need wheel balancing.

Look towards the cv joints, and the transmission itself first.check to see if they slop, or slop in the transaxle's output!its definately powertrain, and id start there.

If the joints were worn the axles would click but not cause a shimmy unless not fully engaged in the transmission housing. If it is anything it is either the front aliment is off or you have worn wheel bearings. You can check the bearing your self by trying to shake the wheel sid t side while in the air.

These could be the problems you're having, bald tires, wheel alignment could be off, steering mechanism, an unbalanced wheel, worn wheel bearings, slop in the transaxle's output, the shocks or struts, then the CV joints. If you're a novice and doesn't know how to check all these that I mentioned then take it to a license mechanic or auto repair shop.

Maybe, CV joints would cause a shimmy if not fully inserted into the transmission. A worn CV would mostly cause a clicking noise when turning. Most probably the shimmy is caused by damaged front tires. Also check the wheel balancing and alignment on the front wheels. Finally check the front suspension and engine mounts for wear.

As far as i think 45 mph is mot a very high speed for taurus shimmies, You can run it at least at the speed of 80 mph and then it may cause cv joints.
