It might be. Many golfers have trouble hitting the driver because the shaft is too long to control the hit. They actually do well with shorters shafts. Try it

Shortening a driver actually makes your drives shorter not longer. However, it will help you to hit it more accurately. Newer drivers are longer; therefore, they add distance. But you can improve your accuracy if you take an inch off of your driver.

Shortening your driver, in an attempt to cover more yards off the tee, is only recommended if the shortened club will not affect your swing. A golfers' swing is very important in the game and any change in stance caused from compensating for the shortened driver can create more harm than good when it's time to tee up.

Shortening a driver is usually a good idea when a person seeks accuracy over distance. The shortening of a golf club means a persons drives will be shorter but more accurate.
