Yes. Karat is a measure of purity of the gold, with 24 being 99.999% pure. So, 23 karat gold is about 96% pure, 18 equals 75%, 12 equals 50%, etc.

24 karat gold is pure gold,so 23 karat gold would be just shy of pure.It seems to be mainly used for gold-plating.14 karat gold is the most common used for jewelry,being alloyed with copper or other materials to make it stronger.10 karat gold is also found in jewelry.
