A consumer is an active participant within a market economy purchasing goods and services, whereas a customer is a specific consumer investing in the goods and services of a particular company at a given time.

The former is shopping. He is in the market for a product or service. The latter is using what he has already purchased.

consumer is the end user of the product while the customer is one who is the intermediary b/w the manufacturer and the consumer or in other words as the one who pays the sales tax.
