Answer by  Olin (101)

Many gold frames are in fact not gold; they are only painted to give the appearance of gold. If the frame, when scratched in a discrete location, still maintains a metal feel and golden appearance, the value of the gold depends on the purity of the gold. The purity of gold can be determined by a professional jeweler or metalsmith.

An answer for your question depends on the period the frame has been created and its state of conservation (e. g. , presence or absence of spots or damage). Some simple frames can be sold for $50-$70.

Everything has value, even your frame. The question should be "what is it worth to you? " The Actual value should be appraised by an appraiser if it is antique or collectible. If it is well crafted and made of good material the value will be higher.

Value is determined by access to someone who wants something. It seems likely that there is no easy way for anyone who wants to pay a lot for the frame to find you. You need access to an art dealer.
