Maria da Silva claims to be born in 1880, but does not have any real proof. Of course, considering the time and place she was born, documentation would be difficult.

Maria claims her birthdate as 1880, although documents showing birthdate, etc., date only from the 1970's. Eugenie Blanchard, however, can be verified by the Guinness Book of World Records as being 114 years old. Yet, photographs indicate that it is very possible that Maria is a contender for the title.

Maria Da Silva claims to be the oldest person alive and not the oldest woman to live. If you believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible that title would be held by someone from the Old Testament.

This woman seems to be the oldest person at 130 years old. However, Juana Bautista de la Candelaria Rodriguez of Cuba is also a possible candidate at 126 years old.
