Is it safe to give a rabbit Benadryl?

My rabbit seems to have allergies and I would like to provide him with some relief.

I would check with your veterinarian first. Our vet recommended 1/2 a benedryl for our 18 lb cat when he got a bee sting, and he was pretty doped up. It might be too much for your bunny. A lot of times a change in food can lower an animals allergic reactions-- that worked with our other cat.

Do not give him anything not prescribed by a vet. The best relief would be to make a vet appointment as soon as possible in case it is an infection.

It is perfectly safe to give Benadryl to a rabbit. Check with a veterinarian on the right dosage and know that Benadryl can cause hyperactivity in rabbits. Most importantly, checked with a professional veterinarian before starting your pet on any medication.

Benadryl, in small doses, is usually safe to give to most animals. The safest thing is start with very small doses of children's benadryl and see if it helps.

Yes it it safe to give your rabbit Benadryl. Basically you can use any human medicines on pets and animals but sometimes they may be ineffective. In this case, it will work.

Just FYI i don't know how long this has been up- but most human medications are NOT SAFE for pets. Always check with a vet before giving your pet anything made for humans!!!  add a comment

Do NOT give your rabbit medication that wasn't prescribed by a qualified EXOTICS vet who can make a proper diagnosis and treatment plan(i.e. a specialised one, not a regular cat/dog vet). It is likely a URI rather than allergies. You need to make sure the dosage and medication are safe.

It is safe to give Benadryl to rabbits. The best choice would be to give them childrens Benadryl and only 1mg per day. But also be forewarned that Benadryl may have the opposite effects on a rabbit than it does on you. It may cause them to become more hyper.

My rabbit has been sneezing and has a runny nose. Sometimes she makes grunting noices- not sure if it's normal or if she's sick. I give her childrens allergy medicine. Im really worried about her! I've read about snuffles and I don't want her to die! Help

No alot of human medications are very deadly to animals the vet is the only one that could give you the proper information on that. Some animals can have it some can not their genetic make ups are totally different from ours.
