You can easily refinish a trumpet yourself by simply scrubbing it with paint thinner and letting it dry. Then spray with a lacquer and let it dry, seal with carwax.

No, because first you must strip the old lacquer, is very labor intensive; next buff the trumpet which you must have some experience.

What kind of metal is the trumpet, and is it lacquered? Generally, lacquered trumpets need to be stripped and relacquered. Trumpets that are plated with silver or brass may need to be replated. Any dings, bends or performations need to be repaired. Best leave all this to professionals!

Yes you can do it. It may take some time but all it is, is a peice of brass. You can sand it down and put a new brass finish on it.

If you do a good amount a research and feel confident then of course. All there is to do is take it apart, sand it, paint it and re-assemble it.

To be very honest, it is very difficult to do. And you should not attempt this yourself. It takes a long time.
