Is it okay to write a letter to ask for a salary increase?

I feel I deserve a raise but I'm afraid to talk in person to my boss about it.

It is always better to have a face to face conversation, so you see the imediate reaction of your boss. But if you are too shy for that, then write.

The direct approach is best. Ask when raises are normally given or if merit raises are given. This allows you to address the issue without asking directly for money.

While there is no problem with writing a letter requesting a salary increase, you would seem more confident if you actually talk to your boss regarding the issue.

Yes, if you are not comfortable discussing this in person with your boss, it is fine to write a letter.
