Yes, in many countries and some states. These animals are powerful and difficult to care for, I would recommend adopting a wild chimp through the Jane Goodall Institute instead.

I think its not legal to adopt a chimpanzee as a pet as it can harm your neighbours. If its left free it can be very dangerous to the people around your place.

In most areas of the country it is illegal to keep a chimp. A chimp is considered still wild no matter how well-trained they appear. A full grown chimp can be very dangerous because they are much stronger than a man. You will have to call your town governor to answer this question.
