The overwhelming answer from many counselors and children of divorce is NO. The children know when something isn't right. They'll have to grow up in an atmosphere always on edge. They won't see regular loving behavior between partners who respect each other.

An unhappy marriage affects the entire family dynamic. It is wise to make an effort to reconcile for the sake of the children, but if all attempts at this fail it is best to walk away. Ultimately, an unhappy marriage leads to unhappy children too.

No, it is not. Children are very sensitive and they do know something is wrong. The longer you stay together, the more they start to think it is their fault, and maybe if they were not in the way, mom and dad would be happy together again.

The best option is to split up but give the children equal access to both parents. Staying together rather than separating amicably could be more harmful to the kids emotionally.

This depends entirely upon the relationship. I would usually say yes if the problems can be worked out, but if you are always arguing it may be better to split.

It depends on how bad things are for the parents. If the parents are fighting all the time, that scares kids and it's better to split up.

Never stay in a home where you or your children are in physical danger, such as a spouse who threatens to kill anyone, brandishes knives, or actually beats people up. If he is addicted to drugs or alcohol, leave if he refuses treatment.

Children are very smart and can sense when parents are at odds. It isn't in the best interest of children to be around two feuding parents. The parents may think they behavior does not impact the kids, but that isn't true. Children love both parents, it might be more healthy for them to live with one parent.

It is by far the worst thing you could ever do, ever. Seriously. The kids will just see you fight and they will see that you don't love each other.
