Herpes is contagious, but it depends on many factors (how long they've had it, where the disease is located on the body, whether it's the first outbreak, etc.). If the person infected has had the disease for a very long time, takes medication, and you use a condom that covers the outbreak site, you are less likely to contract it.

Yes, herpes is contagious. Herpes, in all of its forms, is a virus, and viruses are generally easy to contract. For oral and genital herpes, it is not necessary for an outbreak to occur to contract the virus. It can happen at any time.

Herpes is an extremely contagious venereal disease. People most commonly catch it by having unprotected sex with someone who is infected. People with herpes sometimes have no symptoms, and may not realize that they are infected.
