Is grout for travertine different than grout for ceramic tile?

All grout will specify on the container what product it works best for. There are several different types of grout, some which may bleed into porous types of stone. With travertine you shouldn't have much trouble using any old grout but make sure you read the suggested applications just in case.

Check with a professional that uses it they would be able to tell you far better than anyone making a guess on here and it will cost you less in the end because you will make less mistakes.

Not really. It is the same stuff but they call it by different names. The grout for travertine is not going to be as strong so you may notice tiles come up before you would expect them to especially if it is a main walkway. The grout for ceramic tiles is stronger and will hold longer.

Yes, grout for travertine tile is specially made for this tile as it will prevent the tile from becoming to hard and brittle.

Whether tile is made of travertine or ceramic does not make a difference as to which type of grout could/should be used.

Yes, actually it is a lot different. The substance is a lot thinner than the actual grout. If you are going to use ceramic tile, you could use either or.

No. You can use the same grout for travertine tile that you would use for ceramic. I do suggest pre-sealing the travertine prior to grouting.

The grout used for travertine is not any different, however the application process is a little different. Travertine is porous and can easily be stained. Before grouting you will need to apply a sealer to the tile. This will prepare the surface so that the color of the grout does not seep into the travertine.

Grout for ceramic tile often has some sand in it. Travertine stone is very porous and soft; You usually should use an "unsanded" grout so that it does not mar the soft travertine stone finish. Since travertine stone is very porous, you should apply a couple layers of NON-glossy sealant to the travetine stone BEFORE grouting; as well as afterwards.

While the materials for each one are somewhat different, you can use one or the other for almost every basic task.
