In early Bible times frankincense was used in worship to God. In the first century frankincense was no longer used by Christians but instead became a defining mark of paganism.

Catholics use incense during the celebrated Mass. As one of the gifts given to Jesus by the wisemen, and the Catholic mass being considered a paganistic practice by non-Catholics (excluding Jews); this is used in a huge scensor and swung in the sanctuary during certain times in the Catholic Mass.
