Doxycycline can be used effectively in the treatment of Strep Throat. However, it should only be used under a doctor's supervision to make sure that you really do have strep and not some other illness that Doxycycline will be ineffective against.

The Cillin type medications are more appropriate for strep infections. Medications are bug specific and do not cover as wide a variety as people often believe

Although doxycycline, a drug in the tetracycline family, is often prescribed to treat strep, some strep throat is immune to it. In that case, Amoxicillan would be a better choice. It is important to have a correct diagnosis before taking any antibiotic since they are ineffective against some conditions.
