Question by  tc25dreamer (180)

Is dirty water the same thing as regular water when watering plants?

I want to know if it's okay to use dirty water to water the plants.

What is "dirty" water? Water used to do laundry is "dirty" in that it contains soap residue, which would kill plants. Water from a nearby stream might be okay to water a garden, but not to drink. Best to water your plants with water you'd drink.

It would depend what the water had been used for. If it is dirty water simply because it is collected rainwater than it would be fine. If it was water that was used for any sort of cleaning and has any cleansers or chemicals in it then you would not want to use it for watering.

It depends on how the water got dirty. If some dirt or debris got in the water, it's probably fine. If it's stagnant, it could cause fungal or bacterial problems.
