If you are crying in pain, I would say 'no. ' Acupuncture is not usually a painful procedure. It is often done in a soothing or calming setting, however, which can rovide emotional / psychological relief or comfort, in addition to any relief from physical pain. When people cry, with acupuncture as with massage, it is often for those emotional reasons.

It is not something that happens all the time, but would not be considered unusual. Acupuncture is extreamly relaxing, and soemtimes triggers some sort of release. Sometimes being so relaxed brings out emotions that are hidden inside. This explains why you might cry even though you are feeling far from sad.

Because of how relaxed a patient can get emotions such as crying are fairly normal. The lighting, the comfort, the overall mood. If a patient is suffering from emotional stress often times they relax to the point of emotional breakdown. Emotions are easily set free once you become engulfed in relaxation and an overall sense of well being.

This is not typical because the pins should not penetrate so deep as to initiate such a pain that invokes crying. People are not usually over sensitive to this procedure. One explanation could be an exaggerated psychological response from the expectation of the pins entering the skin. Whatever the explanation, it's likely that a tolerance will develop eventually.

It is not normal to cry during acupuncture session unless the needles on the specific points to stimulate the tear duct to make you cry or you cry from the pain caused by inserted needles or when needles being inserted. There are stinging or uncomfortable sensations when the needles are inserted and adjusting the dept of needles into the skin.
