Of metals commonly used for conductive wires, silver is the most efficient. However, its price is often considered prohibitive. As copper is both inexpensive and has a high conductivity, it is most generally the metal used for most conductive wiring work. Copper is most common in as light-gauge wires due in part to the relative ease of soldering it.
