California it at a fault line and is, in fact, slowly moving away from the US. It is not sinking into the ocean, though.

Not true. California earthquakes are caused by friction between the Pacific and North American plates,California sitting mainly on the North American plate. The Pacific plate is a subduction plate, meaning it moves under the North American plate, while the North American plate rises. Major earthquakes increase the California landmass.
