Is baby food an appropriate gift at a baby shower?

I never see anyone give food at showers.

While it is not a bad idea, it is the type of thing that you might check with the parents about. Many parents don't give their children typical 'everyday' baby food; many make their own or buy organic. Plus, it can't be used for a while and does go bad.

Since most baby showers take place before the birth of the child, and infants can't eat baby food until they are about six months old, it is not a very practical, fun or exciting gift. There is nothing inappropriate about it, it just isn't needed for the first couple of months.

Actually, no it really is not because you do not know when this particular baby will be ready for it, and it might be out of date. Nor do you know whether this child will have any food allergies or other issues that would make it unsuitable.

It would depend on the economic situation of the person having the shower. It would not be appropriate for someone financially fine. Someone in need of a helping hand, yes.

I don't think it's appropriate. Baby showers are sometimes held months before the baby is born, so bringing baby food is not very practical. If you wanted to, you could get a gift card to a local store where the parents can buy the food themselves after the baby is born.
